Wineries Crush Wedding Party Competition

An Interview with Put A Cork In It Winery

Wedding Reception - 6/1/2018

Wine, it's been around for 8,000 years. Archeologists believe Georgia made the first wine around 6,000 BC, but the Chinese had a similar beverage around 7,000 BC

Our point is that wine has been a staple of celebrations, literally, for eons.

That's why we're proud to present one of Oklahoma City's most popular wineries in today's Fantastic Friday Wedding Blog!

Put A Cork In It Winery is located in Bricktown, the city's entertainment hot spot. It sits on the canal level west of the Bricktown Ballpark and, according to owner Andrea Griggs, it's party central for Brides-to-Be.

OKBRIDE: Tell us about PACIIW. When did you open? Why a winery in Bricktown?

ANDREA: Put A Cork In It was established in the summer of 2008. Over the next several months, we found a location in Bricktown, renovated it and opened in March 2009. During and year OKC hosted the New Orleans Hornets, we attended several basketball games. We simply loved the vibrancy and energy Bricktown had when we went to the games, so we decided early on we wanted to be a part of that, and contribute to the atmosphere of downtown OKC.

OKBRIDE: What sets your winery apart from others around the metro area?

ANDREA: We were the second winery in OKC, and the first in downtown. What sets us apart is, first of all, our location. Couples can choose a variety of things to do in Bricktown -- go to dinner, take in a movie, go bowling, do a wine tasting, go to a ballgame, etc. in no particular order. We offer a large selection of wines ranging from dry red wines to sweet wines, allowing customers to find the one wine that suits their palate best. Another thing that sets us apart is that customers can see into the winery's tank room and bottling area, giving them a first-hand look at our wine making processes.

OKBRIDE: Are you a snooty winery?

ANDREA: One has only to browse our gift shop to figure out we don't take ourselves too seriously. We have wines for those just turning 21 (first taste of alcohol, I'm sure), and wines for more discriminating palates as well. We don't judge what people enjoy drinking, all we care about is making sure our customers have fun and enjoy their experience here. We are a very casual establishment.

OKBRIDE: We are wedding focused. Do brides/bridesmaids/grooms/haggard parents like to hold events there?

ANDREA: We are often the first stop of bachelorette parties in Bricktown. We offer two private party rooms for brides-to-be and their entourages, as well as for showers, and small receptions. Call or email Lory@putacorkinitwinery.com to make reservations.

OKBRIDE: Tell us about the wine. Do you make it yourselves?

ANDREA: Our wines are made on-site in Bricktown. We search far and wide for the best sources of grapes and juice to make most of our wines. In the spring we purchase fresh juices from South American varietals and in the Fall from California varietals. Recently we began sourcing grapes from local growers to produce local wines, one of which won a gold medal this year at the Finger Lakes International Wine Competition in New York. It is a fact that not everyone likes every wine. Everyone's palate is different, so we try to make something for the full range of wine drinkers that walk through our doors. Few leave without finding a wine they enjoy.

Besides being a wedding celebration hub, Put A Cork In It caters! Brides and Grooms often come in to sample wines for their wedding receptions. The winery offer several options for such events as well as a case discount and multi-case discount.
